UVI Student Spotlight - Michael Bell

UVI Communication Major Michael Bell

Michael is from St. Croix and joined UVI in 2019 as a student in the Summer Bridge program which prepares high school graduates for the expectations of college. Since then, he has been on the Dean's List four times, is Vice President of the UVI Association of Black Journalists and has participated in numerous journalism conferences including traveling to New York and Las Vegas. Michael even sat down with Virgin Islands Governor Albert Bryan Jr. to interview him in person and discuss workforce development.

On the red carpet in New York for 22nd Thurgood Marshall College Fund leadership Institute.

Today, Michael is an intern in corporate communications at the VI Water & Power Authority while he completes his senior year. His advice to new students is,

"College is not as hard as you think. Yes, you have to work hard but you'll find many professors who want to support and challenge you. UVI should definitely be on your radar."
"Just because it's home doesn't mean it's not great. Come with a positive attitude, be willing to grow yourself, get involved and you will do great and go far."
