Students Display at UVI Research Symposium

UVI sophomore Jemica Gumbs is congratulated on Saturday, March 12th by UVI Trustee Dr. Winona P. Hendricks (right). Gumbs, a sophomore mathematics major, displayed her project entitled "Generalized Ratio Tests" during the Ninth Annual Spring Research Symposium, which was held on UVI's St. Croix campus.

Gumbs said her project sought to determine whether an infinite series of numbers converges or diverges. The method most commonly used to resolve the problem of convergence/ divergence is the Ratio Test. Gumbs said her research found that the Ratio Test failed. "Not all functions pass the ratio test," she said. "Even though they might converge."
