UVI Alumni Attempting to Make History

In a last major push to reach a historic 50 percent alumni giving rate, the University of the Virgin is reaching out to all its alumni to make a gift by Sept. 30. UVI President Dr. David Hall challenged alumni to raise the alumni giving rate to 50 percent, in honor of UVI’s 50th anniversary, through what was named the 50 for 50 Challenge. If that goal is reached, UVI will be the first Historically Black College and University (HBCU) to hold that distinction. In a last major push to reach a historic 50 percent alumni giving rate, the University of the Virgin Islands Office of Institutional Advancement is hosting its final Alumni Phonathon of 2012. Scheduled to run nightly until Sept. 20, each evening volunteers will process pledges from traditional and special alumni, and Reichhold Center for the Arts patrons.

On Sept. 17, radio station Da Vybe 107.9 FM broadcasted live from the event’s location in UVI’s Administration and Conference Center, interviewing UVI President Dr. David Hall and fielding calls from alumni throughout the territory and as far away as St. Kitts and Nevis. Jaedee Caines, a UVI alumna and former St. Thomas campus Student Government Association president, joined the broadcast from Nevis. About 15 volunteers, including Dr. Hall and his wife Dr. Marilyn Braithwaite-Hall, made calls.
